The collection contains manuscripts of thirteen poems, esays, and editorials by Gilder. Correspondence chiefly concerns the literary work of other authors and their efforts to have their work published in the "Century Magazine." Other, very brief, topics include Gilder's own poetry, his health problems, travels to England and Canada, views on vivisection, vegetarianism and Abraham Lincoln, Peter Cooper's book on Jefferson, and repairs to the Century building.
